What is a G99 Application?

The G99 standard applies to renewable energy installations that exceed the limits set by G98.

This typically includes:

• Single-phase systems over 16A per phase (≈3.68kW)

• Three-phase systems over 11kW

• Larger commercial or industrial renewable installations

• Battery storage systems exporting significant power

Unlike G98, a G99 application requires DNO approval before installation.

What’s Required for a G99 Application?

Installer & Customer Details:

• Company name & accreditation (e.g., MCS certification)

• Installer and customer contact details

• Site address

System & Connection Details:

• Type of renewable system (Solar PV, battery storage, heat pump, etc.)

• Total generation capacity (kW)

• Inverter manufacturer, model, and G99 compliance certificate

• Connection type (e.g., single-phase or three-phase)

• Export limitation details (if applicable)

Technical Documentation:

• Single-Line Diagram (SLD) – showing how the system connects to the grid

• Protection settings (voltage/frequency trip settings, anti-islanding details)

• Fault level contribution data (impact of the system on the grid)

• Site layout plans (where the equipment is installed)

• DNO application form (specific to the network operator)

Application Submission & Fees:

• The application must be submitted before installation begins

• A G99 application fee is required (varies by DNO)

• The DNO reviews the application, which may take 45-60 days

What Happens Next?

The DNO will assess the application and:

• Approve the connection with or without conditions

• Request modifications or network reinforcement (if needed)

Once approved, installation can proceed, and a G99 commissioning report must be submitted post-installation.
