What is a G98 Notification?

The G98 standard applies to small-scale, single-phase (up to 16A per phase) and three-phase (up to 11kW) "plug and play" renewable energy systems. Unlike G99 applications, which require approval before installation, a G98 notification is submitted after installation.

What’s Required for a G98 Notification?

Installer Details:

• Company name & accreditation (e.g., MCS certification)

• Installer contact information

Site & Customer Information:

• Property address

• Customer name and contact details

System Details:

• Type of renewable system (e.g., Solar PV, battery storage, heat pump)

• Inverter manufacturer, model, and G98 compliance certificate

• Total generation capacity (kW)

• Export limitation details (if applicable)

Technical Documentation:

• Single-line diagram (SLD) showing how the system connects to the grid

• Commissioning sheet (proof of testing & correct installation)

• DNO-approved G98 form filled with relevant details

Submission & Timeline:

• The notification must be submitted within 28 days of commissioning

• The DNO will acknowledge receipt and may request additional details

What Happens Next?

Once submitted, the DNO will log your installation in their records. If they identify any network concerns, they may contact you or your installer for further checks. However, in most cases, no further action is needed, and your system is officially recognized as part of the UK’s renewable energy grid.
